certBox.org is a platform for searching certificates and public keys (X.509 resp. PGP) on the Internet.
- How does certBox.org work?
The platform uses the services of the Secardeo certBox PKI Appliance for searching the installed certificate directories on the Internet or in a local certificate store (certStore). You can search manually using a web browser or automatically using LDAP.
- Are the found certificates and public keys trustworthy?
The published CA certificates and LDAP directories are being validated. We do neither guarantee nor take liability for the contents, validity, trustworthiness or usability of found certificates or public keys.
- How can I search for certificates?
With certBox.org you can search manually using a web browser or automatically using LDAP.
- How can I search using a Web-Browser?
Enter the URL www.certbox.org and select the button "Find Certificate" to display the HTML search form. Then you have to enter a valid e-mail address and select if you want to search for X.509 certificates or PGP keys. Before starting your first search you have to enter some random letters that are displayed on the page into the validation field. The found certificate may be downloaded in binary format (DER) or ASCII format (PEM) or may be imported as a vcard-contact directly into MS Outlook. In addition, the certificate chain belonging to a user certificate may be downloaded.
- How can I search automatically using an e-mail client?
Popular e-mail applications support an automated LDAP search for certificates. Configure your e-mail application according to your user guide with the address ldap://ldap.certbox.org and port 389. The search base is empty.

- Which client applications are supported by certBox.org?
MS Outlook 2000-2016, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail (OS X and iOS 6-9), Samsung Email App (for Galaxy S3 and S4), NitroDesk TouchDown, Lotus/IBM Notes, PGP 8-9, Adobe Acrobat 9-DC.
- Which certificates may be found?
Search requests will be served locally or forwarded to about 140 publicly available certificate directories (PKI Repositories).
- What will it cost?
This service is currently free of charge. The public access to certBox.org is restricted to 10 search requests per day. Organizations are allowed to publish up to 10 certificates or PGP keys. For individuals, access is restricted to 2 published certificates or PGP keys. If you need an unlimited access, please contact info@secardeo.com.
- How can my own certificate be found?
You can upload your user certificate or an entire certificate directory to the certBox using the button "Upload Certificate". The following file types are allowed for upload: ASC, CER, CRT, DER, GPG, LDIF, PEM, PGP and ZIP. Using a ZIP archive, you can upload simultaneously multiple files of the aforementioned types. Please note that uploaded files are published only after an approval by a support staff. This usually takes 2-3 business days.
